In the Dolphin level, swimmers start swimming sets of 3 and 4 laps, building stamina and strength. Freestyle and backstroke skills continue to be improved, and breaststroke is added.
Class format Children receive stroke development and correction instruction whilst swimming their lap sets.
Outcomes: • I can swim backstroke and freestyle with good technique for 60 metres.
• I have the correct breaststroke kick.
• I can produce butterfly wiggles and attempt butterfly arms.
Shark
6 per class maximum In the Shark level, freestyle and backstroke skills continue to be improved, and we build breaststroke and butterfly technique and stamina. We also introduce tumble turns, used in competitive swimming.
Class format Children receive stroke development and correction instruction whilst swimming their lap sets, and are challenged with longer sets.
Outcomes:
• I can swim all four strokes proficiently.
• I have good stamina and strength in all four strokes.
